Job Description
Basic Function:
This is a fixed term training programme for a 4 year duration. The appointee will gain the opportunity to complete Professional Accounting exams during the course of a training contract in a supportive learning environment. Over the term of the training programme he/she will gain experience in, and assume responsibility for, certain accounting functions including, but not limited to, financial reporting, tax compliance, systems development, liaising with internal and external auditors, business process improvements and maintenance of procedure documentation.
Job Objectives
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of high quality monthly and year end management accounts including preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and timely follow-up on remedial actions.
- Monthly income and expense review and variance analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of annual Financial Statements.
- Liaise with auditors from the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General during the annual audit process.
- Liaise with Internal Audit.
- Assist in maintenance of compliance framework to ensure full compliance with statutory / regulatory requirements i.e. VAT returns, VIES/Intrastat returns, payroll returns, CSO returns and ensuring filings are completed in accordance with legislation and timelines.
- Ensure compliance with Good Governance and Internal Control requirements.
- Collate data necessary for compliance with the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies.
- Maintenance of the chart of accounts in the financial system.
- Participate in various finance department projects including process improvements, system upgrades, monitoring controls and KPIs.
- To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and Action Plan.
- To actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
- Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
- Any other Financial Accounting duties as may be assigned from time to time.

This is an open public competition. Should a current serving Teagasc staff member be successful in their application through open public competition for this post, their current contract of employment with Teagasc will come to an end on taking up this post. |
