Job Description
Basic Function:
This position will require the Advisor to support the delivery of the Teagasc Pig Development programme in information dissemination via the production of newsletters, the Pig Edge podcast, skills videos, infographics, fact sheets, etc. They will also support the delivery of training via the Teagasc Pig Course, workshops and occasional lectures at Teagasc Agricultural Colleges. The Teagasc Pig Development Department Department (part of the Pig & Poultry Research and Development Department) supports pig producers by providing research, advice and education across a range of issues of importance to the sector. Funding for an Agriculture Development Officers (Pig Development) is available through the Teagasc/IFA Joint Pig programme.
Background:
Teagasc, the Agriculture and Food Development Authority, is the national body providing integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities. Agriculture Development Officers (Pig Development) play a central role in the delivery of advisory, training and teaching services within Teagasc.
Job Objectives
- To develop and deliver an agreed enterprise business plan as part of the Pig Development Department (PDD) based team and in accordance with the requirements of the Teagasc/IFA Joint Programme
- To use a range of effective advisory methodologies as part of an enterprise team to achieve technology transfer and sustainable client development, in particular digital communications technologies to support information dissemination via the production of newsletters, the Pig Edge podcast, skills videos, infographics, fact sheets, etc.
- To maintain a high profile for the Teagasc advisory service through activities, local regional and national events, publications and public relations.
- Take responsibility for the marketing of services and training programmes
- Preparation and delivery of classes, lectures and practicals on a variety of relevant programme areas including online delivery.
- Preparation and delivery of assessments in accordance with relevant education guidelines.
- To maintain responsibility for own development and updating through active participation in PMDS.
- To assist management and administrative staff in achieving good governance and risk management through co-operation and adherence to administrative procedures and practices.
- To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and Action Plan.
- Take responsibility for the marketing of services and contract with clients consistent with the achievement of the area income targets.
- Take responsibility for the marketing of training programmes.
- Liaison with relevant stakeholders in the industry and education sectors.
- Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
