Job Summary
Basic Function:
The appointee will provide field and laboratory support to the Pasture-Fed project at Teagasc. They will be required to assist experiments, as well as, collect feed and animal samples on the Future Dairy Research farm. They will be responsible for the management of GreenFeed animal emission monitory systems on site as well as ensuring that all measurements are robust and accurate. They will be required to ensure that the analytical methodologies are undertaken in accordance with the appropriate standard operating procedures as well as participate in the maintenance and up-keep of the associated measurement and analytical equipment. The successful candidate will be required to manage data that is generated from these projects.
Background:
Teagasc has an international reputation for researching and developing pasture-based systems of livestock production. Teagasc Moorepark is the site of the dairy research programme and it investigates aspects of dairy production research such as nutrition and milk composition, grassland and grazing management, breeding and reproduction, health and welfare, milking technology, milk production systems, environmental and economic analysis. Teagasc Moorepark are seeking to appoint a highly qualified and enthusiastic field technician to support a VistaMilk industry funded entitled PastureFed. The objective is to evaluate the impact of concentrate feeding levels on economic and environmental sustainability of pasture based systems.
Job Objectives
- To provide support to the VistaMilk funded PastureFed project
- Assist in duties relating to on-farm sampling
- Assist in duties relating to animal sampling
- To contribute to the management of samples
- Work effectively with the research team to ensure timely and successful completion of the experiments
- To contribute to the teamwork and team-spirit in the research group
- Health & Safety Duties may be assigned from time to time.
- To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and Action Plan.
- To actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
- Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.

As this role will involve driving vehicles, candidates must satisfy and continue to satisfy during employment with Teagasc, legal requirements to drive a car unaccompanied on Irish public roads.

This is an open public competition. Should a current serving Teagasc staff member be successful in their application through open public competition for this post, their current contract of employment with Teagasc will come to an end on taking up this post. | |
