Basic Function
To provide technical support for the running of all educational programmes operated by Ballyhaise College.
Background
Ballyhaise Agricultural College is based in Co. Cavan. The College offers QQI accredited Level 5 and 6 courses in Agriculture and Forestry both full time and part time. Degree courses in Agriculture are conducted at Ballyhaise in collaboration with Dundalk Institute of Technology. All courses require extensive technical and practical training to be provided for students.
Job Objectives
- To prepare and deliver machinery and workshop skills training in line with the approved curriculum.
- To undertake practical skills assessments and machinery proficiency testing of students.
- To assist in the supervision of students on work experience.
- To assist with the operation and management of the college machinery fleet.
- To assist in the requisition and procurement of plant and machinery as required.
- To maintain, and supervise the maintenance of, machinery and equipment.
- To ensure the safe operation of all workshops and equipment.
- To record and maintain accurate physical and financial records relating to farm machinery.
- To assist in the organisation and delivery of advisory and promotional events and activities.
- To contribute to the ongoing review and development of Teagasc educational programmes.
- To oversee the purchase, storage and use of fuels and oils.
- To support college management in the selection and acquisition of machinery and equipment.
- To assist with and participate in the marketing of courses at Ballyhaise Agricultural College.
- To manage the health and safety of students during all machinery-related activities.
- To fully co-operate with all provisions made for ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of themselves, fellow staff, students, and non-Teagasc personnel, and to assist management in complying with all relevant legal obligations. This includes full adherence to the responsibilities set out in the College Safety Statement.
- To take a lead role in the implementation and inspection of safety practices across all mechanisation activities within the college. This includes regular use of the Flex safety management system, close collaboration with the College Safety Coordinator, and a key role in the annual review and update of the College Safety Statement.
- To support Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Customer Service Charter and Action Plan.
- To actively participate in annual business planning, risk management, and the Performance Management and Development System (PMDS).
- To take responsibility for their own ongoing personal and professional development.
- To perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

As this role will involve driving vehicles, candidates must satisfy and continue to satisfy during employment with Teagasc, legal requirements to drive a car unaccompanied on Irish public roads.
