Job Description
Basic Function
To operate as part of a team in the development, delivery and assessment of agricultural education and training to a wide range of courses/programmes within Kildalton College. The person appointed to this post will be assigned to the teaching staff of the College.
Background:
Kildalton College is the leading provider of training in Agriculture, Horticulture and Equine studies in Ireland with over 1,300 students attending courses each year. In addition to providing QQI accredited courses at Levels 5 and 6, Kildalton College also provides courses at Levels 7 and 8 in conjunction with the South East Technological University (SETU formerly WIT) making the college a progressive learning facility in the South East.
Job Objectives
- To participate, as appropriate, in the delivery of education and training programmes at Kildalton Agricultural College including fulltime courses, distance education and apprenticeships.
- Preparation, delivery, assessment and correction of classes/lectures/practicals on a variety of agricultural subject areas related to educational programmes run by Kildalton College.
- To develop, as part of a team, the education and training programme for the agricultural college in consultation with the manager.
- To deliver appropriate components of the Teagasc agricultural education programmes with responsibility for the co-ordination of assigned modules or courses.
- To enter student details and results, as appropriate, on Teagasc’s Education management system, Quercus, and to prepare files for external verification and submission to QQI.
- To use a range of effective teaching methodologies including discussion group facilitation.
- To maintain a high profile for the agricultural college through activities; local, regional and national events, publications and public relations.
- To maintain effective liaison with relevant stakeholders and agencies.
- To keep up-to-date on the subject matters appropriate to their discipline and to undergo such training as may be required from time to time.
- To assist management and administrative staff in achieving good governance and risk management through co-operation and adherence to administrative procedures and practices.
- To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan through adherence to best practice protocols.
- Managing health, safety and welfare of students.
- To undertake self-development and updating through active participation in PMDS based role-related training and the development of a personal development planner.
- To work ‘out of hours’ when needed.
- Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
- To carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
