Job Description
Basic Function: To develop and implement, at Clonakilty College, a comprehensive adult farmer education and training programme which reflects the education and training goals in Teagasc Statement of Strategy and local requirements. To operate as part of a team in the development and delivery of classes and practicals to a wide range of courses/programmes at Clonakilty Agricultural College.
Background: Clonakilty Agricultural College, located 3 miles from the picturesque town of Clonakilty in West Cork was established in 1905 and has become renowned as a center of excellence, over the past 100 years, for the provision of agricultural training. Our location which is set amongst some of the most intensively farmed areas of southern Ireland, makes it a perfect backdrop for agricultural education.
Clonakilty Agricultural College is one of three Teagasc colleges providing agricultural education in Ireland. It is responsible for the provision of full time and part time agricultural education in the southern region. It provides QQI courses in Agriculture from Level 5 to Level 8.
Job Objectives
- To participate, as appropriate, in the delivery/co-ordination of elements of the education and training programmes at Clonakilty College including fulltime courses, distance education and apprenticeships.
- To enter student details and results as appropriate on the Teagasc' Education Management System, Quercus, and prepare files for external verification and submission to QQI.
- To provide reports on the progress of learners as required by management.
- To use a range of effective teaching methodologies including discussion group facilitation.
- To maintain a high profile for the agricultural college through activities, local regional and national events, publications and public relations.
- To maintain effective liaison with relevant stakeholders and agencies.
- To keep up-to-date on the subject matters appropriate to his/her discipline and to undergo such training as may be required from time to time.
- To assist management and administrative staff in achieving good governance and risk management through co-operation and adherence to administrative procedures and practices.
- To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan through adherence to best practice protocols.
- Managing health, safety and welfare of students.
- To undertake self-development and updating through active participation in PMDS based role-related training and the development of a personal development planner.
- To work ‘out of hours’ when needed.
- Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
- To carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
